Old Shatterhand melody

Composer Martin Böttcher (2002)

The Old Shatterhand melody penned by the German composer Martin Böttcher is the main instrumental theme of the Karl May films Der Schatz im Silbersee from 1962 and Winnetou Part 1 from 1963. The title is the most successful German film music title in 1960s, stayed in various charts for up to 17 weeks and sold more than 100,000 times. That was very unusual for film music at the time. Despite the high sales figures, Martin Böttcher never received an award for the title.

The title first appeared on the single Polydor 24 947 in mono (the harmonica soloist on this recording, which was made in Hamburg in November 1962, was Johnny Müller , an orchestral musician of the NDR ) and became several times after the LP Winnetou / Der Schatz im Silbersee (Polydor 46 838) was released republished. In 1966, Martin Böttcher recorded the title in stereo in his own cover version, again with Johnny Müller as a soloist. Today the title is standard on many CD releases of music from Karl May films.

After its release, the title was also interpreted vocal by various artists , including by Winnetou actor Pierre Brice on the album Emotions under the title You miss me.

The Czech group Těžkej Pokondr, who already received double platinum for a reinterpretation of the Winnetou melody , also re-recorded the Old Shatterhand melody as a vocal version under the title Vontové on the album Ježek v peci .
