"Old" Lochmaben Castle is an abandoned lowland castle of the moth type on a headland between Loch Kirk and Loch Castle in Lochmaben in the Scottish administrative unit Dumfries and Galloway .
history
The moth was built by Clan Bruce , Lords of Annandale in the 12th century. After the partial destruction of Annan Castle by a flood in the 12th century, Lochmaben Castle became the family seat of the Bruces.
In 1298 King Edward I of England took the castle. He started work on the castle, but soon decided to have a new Lochmaben Castle built as a replacement southeast of the old location.
