According to Danish representations, the Oldenburg was the flagship of the 1st eskadre in 1630 . After the Spes (53 pieces) and the apparently identical Lindormen (40 pieces), she was the third most powerful warship in the Danish fleet. In 1632 she was involved in escorting merchant ships to and from Iceland . She was also involved in the sea battle on the Kolberger Heide in the summer of 1644. On October 13th or 23rd (new era) 1644 she took part in the sea battle in the Fehmarnbelt off Laaland (Lolland) during the Torstensson War. After a short battle it was captured by the Swedish units Nya Fortuna , Svan and Leopard . In addition to the Oldenburg , three other Danish ships were captured by the Swedish fleet. The Oldenburg was put into Swedish service and carried 8 24-pounders, 12 18 pounders, 6 12 pounders, 16 8 pounders and 6 three-pounders in 1658 with a crew of 284 men. She was removed from the list in 1660 and declared a wreck in 1670.

A picture of the Oldenburg can be found at Probst as a detail from a painting by Willem van de Velde the Younger .

A newspaper note dated July 2, 1667, shows that the Danish fleet had put a new warship called Oldenburg into service, which carried 46 pieces. This vehicle is the Oldenburg , built in Neustadt in 1663 , which was handed over to the East India Company in 1673 and in this function was wrecked in 1677.

A third Oldenburg was built in Copenhagen in 1688 and was in service until 1728. With 50 to 52 guns, she was just big enough to sail along in the line .

Another Oldenburg was put into service as a ship of the line in 1740 and had 60 guns. It served until 1778. A model of the ship served the marine painter Olaf Rahardt from Rudolstadt as a model for a portrait made in 2007.
