Ole Paus (born October 24, 1846 in Skien , † March 20, 1931 in Bygdø , Oslo ) ( pronunciation : [ uːlɛ pæʉs ]) was a Norwegian steel wholesaler, factory owner and bank director.

Life

In 1872 he founded the iron and steel company Ole Paus . From 1897 he was a member of the management of Den norske Creditbank (today DNB ASA ) and from 1903 its spokesman. From 1910 to 1918 he was President of the Iron Union. He was also a member of Oslo City Council and chairman of the board of directors of the Morgenbladet newspaper .

As the son of the shipowner and bank director Christopher Blom Paus from Skien and Erasmine Ernst from Copenhagen , he belonged to the Paus family , Henrik Ibsen was his cousin. He was married to Birgitte Halvordine Schou (1848–1923), a cousin of the industrialist Halvor Schou .

He was the father of the consul general and landowner  Thorleif Paus and the wholesaler Christopher Blom Paus. His daughter Martha Marie Paus (* 1876) was married to the noble historian Otto von Munthe af Morgenstierne and his daughter Else Margrethe Paus (* 1885) was married to her distant cousin, the factory owner Nicolay Nissen Paus. He was the grandfather of General Ole Paus and great-grandfather of the musician Ole Paus .

The "Villa Paus" on Bygdø was built for him in 1907.
