Break (family)
Paus (also Pauss and de Paus ) ( pronunciation : [ pæʉs ]) is a family belonging to the East Norwegian patriciate , whose members live mainly in Norway and Sweden .
The patrilineal progenitor of the family was Hans Olufsson (died 1570). As a canon in St. Mary's Church in Oslo , d. H. the royal clergy had, according to a 1300 Hans issued privileges letter Haakon V. the rank of knight . Since the 1600s the family belonged to the regional leadership, the "civil servant aristocracy", in Øvre Telemark , as priests, judges and civil servants. Other members of the family were wholesalers, shipowners and landowners since the 1800s.
Henrik Ibsen was a descendant of the family through his maternal grandmother Hedevig Paus and his paternal step-grandfather, the shipowner Ole Paus.
