John Tice "Jack" Dolbin (* 12. November 1948 in Pottsville , Pennsylvania ) is a former American American football player . He played as a wide receiver for the Denver Broncos in the National Football League (NFL).

Player career

College career

Jack Dolbin attended high school in his hometown , where he played American football as a running back on the school team . After graduating from high school, he received an athletic scholarship from Wake Forest University . For the Wake Forest Demon Deacons he also ran as a running back. Dolbin has received three awards from his college for his athletic achievements.

Professional career

Dolbin was not hired by any professional football team after completing his studies. He played for a semi-professional football team in Pottstown in 1971 before he decided to study chiropractic at the National University of Health Sciences in Lombard , Illinois . In 1974 he took part in a trial training session with the Chicago Fire , which was part of the World Football League that had been founded a year earlier . Dolbin was able to convince and received a professional contract. After a playing year with the team from Chicago , he moved to the NFL to the Denver Broncos, where he was used together with Floyd Little and Rick Upchurch as a wide receiver in the offense of the team.

In 1977 the Red Miller trained team managed to win twelve of 14 games in the regular season . With this performance, the team from Denver could move into the play-offs , where it first came to a clash with the Pittsburgh Steelers . Dolbin was able to use a pass from quarterback Craig Morton for a touchdown in the game and thus contribute to the 34:21 victory of his team. By winning the game, Dolbin was able to move into the AFC Championship Game with the Broncos , where the Oakland Raiders , who could be beaten 20:17, were carried. In the following Super Bowl XII against the Dallas Cowboys supervised by Tom Landry , Dolbin, who could catch two passes in the game, had to admit defeat with his Broncos with 27:10.

After the 1978 regular season, Dolbin managed to move into the play-offs again with the Broncos. Although he was able to catch four passes in the play-off game against the Pittsburgh Steelers for a space gain of 77 yards , he was unable to prevent the Broncos' 33:10 defeat. After a knee injury that he suffered at the beginning of the 1979 season, Jack Dolbin had to end his career.

After the career

Jack Dolbin completed his training as a chiropractor and returned to his hometown in 1984 to open the Pottsville Sports and Rehabilitation Center as a chiropractor . Since 1996 he has served as the second vice president of Penn State University . In 1982 he was inducted into the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame . Dolbin is married and has four children.
