Marcus Paus

Marcus Nicolay Paus (born October 14, 1979 ) ( pronunciation : [ ˈmɑrkʉs ˈpæʉs ]) is a Norwegian composer and one of the most played contemporary Norwegian classical composers. He is considered to be a representative of a reorientation towards tradition, tonality and melody, and his works have been praised by critics in Norway and abroad.

His work includes chamber music, choral works, solo works, concerts, orchestral works, operas and symphonies as well as works for theater, film and television. In 2010 he was artistic director of the Oslo Opera Festival.

He studied composition at the Norwegian Academy of Music and the Manhattan School of Music . Today he lives in Berlin .

family

He is the son of the famous singers Ole Paus and Anne-Karine Strøm and belongs to the Paus patrician family from Oslo. He is the grandson of the Norwegian general Ole Paus and great-grandson of the landowner and Norwegian consul general in Vienna Thorleif Paus and his Austrian wife Ella Stein. His great-great-grandfather, the steel wholesaler and bank director Ole Paus , was cousin Henrik Ibsens .
