Beijing Senova

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Beijing Senova ( 绅宝 , ShēnBǎo) has been a sub-brand of the Beijing Automotive Group since 2012 and is subordinate to the main brand Beijing . The Chinese transliteration ShēnBǎo means “treasure of the gentry ” and was previously used for the Swedish car brand Saab . The manufacturer Beijing Motor Corporation uses the term series in its annual reports .

history

As early as 2009, BAW acquired the plans, production facilities, technologies and other rights that are required for the production of the Saab 9-3 and Saab 9-5 models . Above all, the Saab engines, the GM2400, GM2900 and Epsilon platforms from General Motors , as well as the F25 and F35 transmissions, played an important role in the negotiations. The Saab brand name was retained by GM and later sold to Spyker Cars . The BAW was forced to introduce a new brand name.

With the acquired rights, the company decided to assemble the Saab 9-5 in a newly built plant in Shunyi . The vehicle parts were mainly obtained as semi-knocked-down kits from Swedish production. At the same time, the Saab 9-3 (Q60FB) rolled off the assembly line. The assembly of the Saab 9-5 was continued under license agreements until April 2013. The Chinese Saab dealer network was dissolved in May and partially integrated into that of the BAW. The successor to the Saab 9-5 took the Beijing Senova D-series, developed since 2010, in February 2013 . A total of seven vehicle models were presented that are to be established under the Senova brand. One of them is the C50E, which is to be built as the Beijing Senova A series .

Vehicles introduced from 2019 will no longer be marketed as Senova. From now on the models will be sold under the Beijing brand.
