Ole Rømers Høj

Ole Rømers Høj is a burial mound on the eastern edge of the village Vridsløsemagle in the Høje-Taastrup municipality on the Danish island of Zealand . There is also an Ole Rømers Høj in Nyrup Hegn near Helsingør .

The hill was known under the name Kongehøjen ( German  "King's Hill " ) until the end of the 19th century , but got its current name because of the astronomer Ole Rømer (1644–1710), who had his "Tusculanum Observatory" in Vridsløsemagle from 1704. The observatory was believed to have stood on the hill. However, that was wrong. The right place was found in 1978.

The steep hill is over 6.0 meters high and almost 30.0 meters wide, which makes it the largest burial mound in Høje-Taastrup. Since the mound has never been archaeologically excavated, the exact age is unknown, but due to its shape and size it probably dates from the late Iron (400–800 AD) or the subsequent Viking Age (800–1050 AD). .
