The hot wire was the name of a newspaper created in Hanover in 1983 for (based on the original principle) free private classified ads in various regions of Germany. It was published once a week until the end of 2012.

The name of the newspaper is an allusion to the hot wire that existed during the Cold War as a direct telephone line between the power centers of the armaments opponents at the time, the USA and the Soviet Union, to prevent a nuclear war. In 1983 the nuclear arms conflict had become more explosive and the quick placement of advertisements by telephone without bank details and advertising fees was something new - a hotline . Half of the front page also consisted of the large-print telephone advertisement task number.

The hot wire expanded quickly into neighboring regions. In addition to the core area of Lower Saxony, Heisse Draht was represented with regional editions in North Rhine-Westphalia and worked nationwide in the advertising network with other classifieds newspapers.
