Olga Wladimirowna Kern ( Russian : Ольга Владимировна Керн ; born April 23, 1975 in Moscow , Soviet Union ) is a Russian pianist .

Life

Olga Kern, who comes from a family of musicians, began playing the piano at the age of five. She first studied with Yevgeny Timakin at the Moscow Central Music School and continued her studies at the Tchaikovsky Conservatory with Sergei Dorensky . In 1996 she received a grant from the Russian President. At the age of thirteen she won a diploma from the Concertino Praga. After winning the Rachmaninoff Competition for Young Pianists at the age of seventeen, she took part in other international competitions. In 1990 she won the Concorso in Pinerolo and in 2001 the Van Cliburn piano competition (ex-aequo with Stanislav Ioudenitch ). She then continued her concert career with numerous appearances in various European metropolises, and traveled to Japan , South Korea and the United States . Especially there she became a much sought-after soloist after winning the gold medal in the Van Cliburn competition.

Olga Kern prefers the great romantic piano literature. Her repertoire, some works have been published on CD, including the Paganini Variations, Op. 35 by Johannes Brahms , works of Franz Liszt , the first piano concerto by Tchaikovsky , the Piano Concerto Rachmaninoff, the Second Piano Sonata, transcription, Corelli Variations and shorter She also interpreted pieces ( Morceaux de fantaisie , Daisies ). In addition, she recorded some of Chopin's works , such as the Piano Concerto op. 11 and the famous Polonaise in A flat major op. 53. A recording of Balakirev's Islamej is now available.
