Oligosarcus is a genus of carnivorous tetras that in the central South America occurs (Southeast Brazil, Paraguay , Uruguay ). It is missing in the Amazon basin .

features

The Oligosarcus species are elongated and become 7.7 to 28 centimeters long. The head profile is convex or rises evenly. Their snout is pointed, the mouth is longer or the same length as the diameter of the eye. The jaws are exclusively occupied with sharp fangs. When the mouth is closed, the first canine of the lower jaw is still visible. The dorsal fin is short, sickle-shaped and lies behind the center of the body. An adipose fin is present. The caudal fin is deeply forked.
