approach

Leaman's methodical approach aims at a systematic analysis and discussion of historical philosophical problems. He criticizes the fact that the history of Jewish and Arab philosophy often lags behind the discussion of historical classification criteria. Leaman criticizes the fact that the history of Jewish and Arabic philosophy is not an integral part of research and teaching in philosophical faculties, but is often dealt with in non-subject areas, where v. a. Philological, theological or religious studies interests are pursued. In doing so, he particularly criticizes the confusion of philosophical and religious aspects. In general, he criticizes the fact that, according to a widespread methodology, it is assumed that Islamic philosophy has continuously operated in its hostile context, so that behind the wording of philosophical texts a position that is actually represented but kept hidden is hidden. Such was the opinion of v. a. Leo Strauss represented; Leaman also systematically attacks its prerequisites in his Maimonides interpretation.
