Oliver Taylor (born February 19, 1938 in Townsville , Queensland , Australia ) is a former Australian boxer.

amateur

Taylor won the Australian bantamweight championship as an amateur in 1957 and 1959. At the Commonwealth Games in 1958, he finished second. In 1960 he won the bronze medal in the bantamweight division at the Olympic Games in Rome after losing to the Argentine Primo Zamparini on points in the semifinals .

Professional career

In 1961 he turned professional and started with a series of twelve fights without loss with only one draw. In 1963 he won a new edition of the Olympic semifinals against Primo Zamparini. The following two fights made him decide to quit boxing. First he lost a fight against Robert Allotay by knockout in the fourth round in April 1964 . He also lost the fight for the Australian featherweight championship in September of the same year, this time on points against John Famechon .
