from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Oliver Zille (born April 21, 1960 in Leipzig ) is a German cultural manager and has been the director of the Leipzig Book Fair since 2004 .

Life

Zille completed a commercial apprenticeship in book wholesale and foreign trade and then studied foreign trade at the Berlin School of Economics. Employed as a speaker at the Leipziger Messe since 1988 , he has headed the Leipzig Book Fair since 1993 - initially as a project manager and since 2004 as director. In addition, he heads the reading festival “Leipzig reads” and the “Manga-Comic-Convention” which takes place during the book fair.

Act

Zille was largely responsible for the reorientation and growth of the Leipzig Book Fair after the fall of the Wall. In contrast to the Frankfurt Book Fair , he specifically developed Leipzig into a “fair for readers”. The reading festival “Leipzig reads”, founded in 1991 on the initiative of the Bertelsmann Club , was expanded under Zille's leadership to become the largest literature festival in Europe. Above all, the focus of the book fair on the promotion of young literary talents and reading and the mediation of Eastern and Southeastern European literature on the German book market are attributed to its influence. In 2013 he was named “Knight of the Arts” ( Chevalier dans l'Ordre des Arts et Lettres ) by the French government for his services to the mediation of literature .
