Oluvil Lighthouse ( Sinhalese ඕලුවිල් ප්රදීපාගාරය Oluvil pradīpāgāraya ) is a lighthouse ( English Lighthouse ) in the Eastern Province of Sri Lanka .
The 24 m high round tower stands on the beach of Oluvil, a town on the east coast of Sri Lanka, about 12 kilometers south of Kalmunai . It was built and put into operation in 1999 as part of the construction of a new concrete fishing port for the region . A single-storey building for the technical equipment belongs to the structure. The beacon has a fire height of 25 m and shows as an identifier a white flash with a return of 10 seconds (Fl.W.10s).
Oluvil was particularly hard hit by the 2004 tsunami , with the lighthouse also being damaged. The subsequent clean-up work also delayed the completion of the port. It was finally put into operation in 2013.
