Oluyemi Thomas

Oluyemi Thomas (* in Detroit , Michigan) is an American jazz clarinet and saxophonist.

Thomas studied engineering and music at Washtenaw College in Ann Arbor . He plays the bass clarinet and tenor saxophone. With his wife, the poet and percussionist Ijeoma Thomas , he has been forming the group Positive Knowledge for twenty years , with which he has recorded several albums. He also worked with Cecil Taylor , Wadada Leo Smith , Alan Silva , William Parker , Wilber Morris , John Tchicai , Roscoe Mitchell , Anthony Braxton and Charles Gayle . Currently in 2018 he is leading a quartet in Detroit with Kenn Thomas , Ben Willis and David Hurley .
