David Hurley (2019)

David John Hurley AC , DSC, FTSE (born August 26, 1953 in Wollongong ) is a former general in the Australian Army . He is the 27th Governor General of Australia and has been in office since July 1, 2019.

Life

Hurley received his military training at the Royal Military College Duntroon . He commanded the 1st Battalion of the Royal Australian Regiment during Operation SOLACE in Somalia in 1993. After holding various high-level command posts, he was Commander-in-Chief of the Australian Defense Force from 2011 to 2014 . He subsequently was the 38th Governor of New South Wales from 2014 to 2019.

Hurley has been married to Liza Hurley since 1977 and has 3 children with her.
