Quentin Bryce
Dame Quentin Alice Louise Bryce AD CVO (born December 23, 1942 in Brisbane , Queensland ) is an Australian lawyer and politician . She was Governor General of Australia from September 5, 2008 to March 28, 2014 .
Life
Quentin Bryce grew up with three siblings in Southwest Queensland. Her father, Norman Strachan, oversaw wool processing machines. She received her higher education in Brisbane , where she graduated from the University of Queensland in 1965 with a law degree. That same year she was as only the third woman in Queensland as barrister admitted. From 1968 to 1983 she taught law at the University of Queensland, becoming the first woman in the university's history. In 1984, Bryce became the first director of the Women's Information Center, part of the Queensland Office for Women’s Affairs. In 1987 she became head of the Commission for Human Rights and Equality. From 1989 to 1993 she served as director of the Australian Federal Office for Equality. From 1993 to 1996 she became the first head of the National Childcare Accreditation Council. From 1997 to 2003 she directed The Women's College at the University of Sydney .
2003 Quentin Bryce was on the advice of Peter Beattie , the then Prime Minister of the State of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. To the Governor appointed by Queensland and was doing the second woman who was offered the position.
On April 13, 2008, Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd , also a Queenslander, announced her appointment as Governor General of Australia. In this office she was sworn in as the first woman and in succession to Major General Michael Jefferey on September 5, 2008.

Private
In 1964 she married today's Professor Michael Bryce, with whom she has two daughters and three sons.
