Leneen Forde

Mary Marguerite Leneen Forde AC (born May 12, 1935 in Ottawa ) is an Australian - Canadian politician .

She was born Leneen Kavanagh in Canada and worked as a medical-technical laboratory assistant. She was studying for a Bachelor of Arts degree before moving to Australia in 1954. In 1955 she married Francis Gerard Forde, the son of the Australian politician Francis Michael Forde . She worked in the hematology department of the Royal Brisbane Hospital before entering full-time studies after the death of her husband in 1966. In 1970 she graduated with a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Queensland and worked as a lawyer from 1971.

From 1990 to 1992 she was President of Zonta International . In 1991 she was Queenslander of the Year .

She was Governor of Queensland from 1992 to 1997 . In 1998 she became Chair of the Commission of Inquiry into Child Abuse in Queensland Facilities and presented her report in the 1999 Mau.

In 1993 she was named Companion of the Order of Australia . She is the gratial lady of the Order of Malta .

She is currently Chancellor of Griffith University .
