Penelope Wensley
Penelope "Penny" Anne Wensley , AC (born October 18, 1946 in Toowoomba , Australia ) is a former Australian diplomat and Governor of Queensland .
Life
She studied English and French literature at the University of Queensland . She joined the Australian Diplomatic Service in 1967 and has served in France , Mexico and New Zealand . From 1986 to 1988 she was Consul General in Hong Kong . In 1997 she became the first female Permanent Representative to the United Nations . In 2001 and 2011 she was awarded the Order of Australia for her international relations development services. She was Governor of Queensland from 2008 to 2014.
