The Olympic Stadium Nagano ( Jap. 長野オリンピックスタジアム, Nagano Orinpikku Sutajiamu ) is a Baseball - Stadium in the Japanese city of Nagano of, capital prefecture of the same .

history

The sports facility was used for the opening and closing ceremonies of the 1998 Winter Olympics . The opening on February 7th was followed by 48,937 spectators. For the closing ceremony on February 22nd, 49,257 visitors filled the Olympic Stadium. Then the additional grandstands in the outfield were removed and this was converted for later use. The ballpark is part of the Minami-Nagano Sports Park , to which u. a. and the 2015 opened football stadium Minami Nagano Sports Park Stadium belongs. Today the Olympic Stadium offers 30,000 seats, including 21,000 seats. The Shinano Grandserows baseball team plays its games in ten different stadiums in nine cities in Nagano Prefecture, including the Olympic Stadium since 2007. The sports facility has been the destination of the Nagano Marathon since 1999 , in memory of the 1998 Winter Games. In 2011, the marathon planned for April 17th was canceled due to the Tōhoku earthquake in March of that year and the participation fees for the 8,973 registered runners of ¥ 76,270,500 donated to the victims of the disaster.
