The Olympic Laurel Award ("Olympic Laurel Wreath ") is an honor created in 2016 by the International Olympic Committee , which honors athletes for services to education, development, culture and sport. A recommendation of the Olympic Agenda 2020 was thus implemented. The prize is to be presented during the opening ceremonies of the Olympic Games .

The former athlete Kipchoge Keino from Kenya was the first to be honored for his services at the opening ceremony of the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro .
