The shooting competition over 25 meters with the service revolver at the Olympic Games in Athens in 1896 took place on April 10 in Skopeftirion .
The shooters shot in groups of three. The first group were Pantelis Karasvedas from Greece, Sidney Merlin from Britain and Sumner Paine from the United States. His brother John Paine and the two Greeks Sanidis and Aristovoulos Petmezas formed the second group. The composition of the remaining groups is not known.
The two brothers from the United States dominated the field by a large margin, so John Paine finally secured the Olympic victory before his brother.
