Oma leaf

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The you , the granny leaf in the sheep's head .

A Omablatt or short Grandma in card game is commonly known as a very good hand that leads to secure profits.

term

The term has a negative connotation, since an Oma leaf does not require any skill on the part of the player, but is pure luck.

The term is independent of the card game and is used e.g. B. used in Rummy , Skat , Doppelkopf or Canasta . The hand is then usually enough to win a solo.

origin

The origin of the term probably stems from the fact that games often require four players (e.g. Schafkopf ), but there are only three of you, so that you can play with grandma. Grandma means that a fictional fourth player is playing. This is the grandma and with each trick the top card of the grandma pile is simply added to the trick without any confessional rules applying to the “calcified” grandma. Another - simpler - explanation says that with an Oma leaf "every grandma" (even without knowledge of any strategy) would win.
