Omar Linares Izquierdo (born October 23, 1967 in Pinar del Río , Cuba ) is a former Cuban baseball player and two-time Olympic champion .

Linares played third baseman with the Cuban national baseball team and with Pinar del Río in the Cuban baseball league. He is considered one of the greatest Cuban baseball players of all time. Because he played for the national team at the age of 17, he is also known in public as El Niño , which means "the child".

For the baseball team in Pinar del Río, he played a total of 20 seasons. In his career, he had a hit rate of .368, which is the second best value in history. He scored a total of 404 home runs , 1,547 runs batted in, and 264 stole bases .

At the end of his career, he spent three seasons for the Chūnichi Dragons , who play in the Japanese Central League . He resigned in 2002.

Linares played in the first three official Olympic baseball tournaments and won two gold medals (1992 and 1996) and one silver medal (2000) with the Cuban national team. He achieved extraordinary player ratings. His batting average at the Olympics is .444, he holds the Olympic record for most hits (51), most at bats (115) and most home runs (14). He is also the only baseball player to have completed 27 Olympic Games.
