Naqada (also Negade ) is a place in Egypt. Nearby are necropolises of the 1st Dynasty, the Late Old Kingdom and the First Intermediate Period. About 6 km north of Naqada are the remains of the ancient city of Nubt. This place ( ancient Egyptian also Nubet , Greek Ombo ) was the Upper Egyptian main place of worship of the deity Seth in ancient Egypt . The place is about 40 km north of Luxor on the west bank of the Nile . In the vicinity of the place, about 27 km north of Luxor, Flinders Petrie discovered in 1894 a necropolis with about 3,000 graves .
