Omega Scorpiids

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The omega scorpiids are an annual observable meteor shower that is active from May 19th to July 1st. The meteor shower has its maximum in the days from June 3rd to 6th. Under ideal conditions , five meteors per hour can be observed during the maximum, which have a speed of 21 km per second. The radiant position of the maximum activity is in the constellation Scorpio at the coordinates RA 243 ° and DE −22 °. The radiant shifts daily by 0.9 ° to the east and 0.2 ° to the south.

The omega scorpiids are difficult to observe from Central Europe - due to their southern radian position and the associated low altitude above the horizon .
