The SŽD series ЧС2 т (German transcription TschS2 T ) of the Soviet Railways (SŽD) is an express locomotive for 3 kV direct current , which was created under the Škoda factory designation 63E and 120 copies were delivered for the state railway of the former USSR . In terms of the locomotive body and individual structural elements, it resembles the SŽD series ЧС4Т . Despite the similar name, the locomotive has no resemblance to the SŽD series ЧС2 , apart from individual elements of the vehicle part. The locomotives were given the nicknames tower house , tower or brick in service .

history

View of the ČS 2 locomotive

At the end of 1972, the Soviet railways SŽD received two experimental electric locomotives with the designation ЧС2 T and inventory numbers 875 and 876 . The locomotives had more powerful traction motors than the ЧС2 series , which appeared ten years earlier. The arrangement of the traction motors was carried out analogously to this series, namely in series connection , series connection - parallel connection or in parallel connection. There have also been some changes in the design of the armature and poles of the electric traction motors.

Some auxiliary machines were also designed differently than with the ЧС2 . The electric motors of the cooling fans for the traction drive motors were DC motors and arranged in series , the electric motors of the cooling fans of the braking resistors were arranged in parallel , analogous to the sections of these resistors. The locomotive body, which was constructed analogously to that of the SŽD series ЧС4Т , was designed completely differently . The drive still strongly reminded that of the ЧС2 with the two coil springs on each side of the axle and the leaf spring connecting them.

The first series machines of the series ЧС2 T were delivered under the Škoda factory designation 63E1 under the inventory numbers 945-1024 , the second series received the Škoda factory designation 63E2 with the inventory numbers 1025-1062 . There were only minor differences between the individual series, also compared to the test machines; The blinds for the chamber for the braking resistors, which are located in the middle of the locomotive on the roof, can be opened or closed from the driver's cab in the series machines; in the prototypes this was only possible in the chamber. There were differences in the arrangement of the headlights. The locomotives with the factory designation 63E2 have an air conditioning system to cool the driver's cab. Some construction elements have been improved insignificantly.

The locomotives were divided equally between the Leningrad Moscow Railway Station and Moscow Leningrad Railway Station, where they provided express train services in less demanding services, until 2001 they were used at these depots. After 2001 all locomotives were given to the Saint Petersburg Moscow Railway Station depot. They were also stationed at the Murmansk depot until the Murmansk - Louchi section was converted to contact wire with alternating current .
