Omegasome

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

An omegasome is a cell compartment of cells that is formed when there is a lack of nutrients and the accompanying autophagy .

properties

Omegasomes consist to a large extent of phosphatidylinositol-3-phosphate and arise from the membrane of the endoplasmic reticulum . The proteins Atg18 and Vmp1 are involved in the formation of omegasomes . The term 'omegasome' is derived from the omega- like (Ω) form. Autophagosomes can develop from omegasomes . When infected with coronaviruses , more omegasomes are formed. The mitophagy partially effected via the formation of omega omen.
