The omelek island Islands are a part of the Marshall Islands belonging Kwajalein - Atoll . The islands are a total of 3.2 hectares (0.032 km²), most of which is on the main island of Omelek .

The archipelago is uninhabited (military is temporarily stationed on some of the islets).

history

For a long time, the islands served as launch sites for American military missiles. It is part of the Kwajalein Missile Range . The last military test was probably in 1996. Between 2006 and 2009, SpaceX launched five civil, orbital Falcon 1 missiles there .

climate

The climate is humid and hot with a rainy season from May to November. The islands are occasionally hit by typhoons .
