OpenEyes Filmfest Marburg
The OpenEyes Filmfest Marburg is a 5-day open-air short film festival that takes place every July in Marburg . The supporting association is the socio-cultural center Café Trauma. The festival shows the latest national and international short films in audience competition and also offers special platforms for independent, local or marginal short films that rarely find their way into cinemas and television programs.
Visitors choose their favorites from the festival films using voting cards. The audience award is awarded in four categories:
- motion pictures
- documentary
- Experimental film / music video
- Animation film.
Over five days, around 90–110 short films will be shown in the competition at three venues, selected from around 1,000 entries per year (as of 2018). The so-called 'garage cinema' also offers an open screen for spontaneous submissions. The films are seen by around 1200-2000 visitors each year.
Café Trauma started the OpenEyes Filmfest in 1994, initially under the name Mittelhessisches Amateur Filmfest . Initially, short films from the region and selected feature films were shown in the courtyard of the Amöneburg castle ruins . In 1996, for the first time, a program was selected from the entries to the festival and the festival was given its current name. From 2007 to 2009 it took place in the New Botanical Garden in Marburg. Since 2010 the festival has been taking place on the grounds of the g-Werk cultural center , the non-commercial trauma cinema located there, open air in the TraumaGarten and the rooms of the theater next to the tower (TNT) .
Award winners
Over the years, the categories in which the audience awards are awarded have changed. From 1994 to 1999 1st, 2nd and 3rd prize winners were chosen. From 2010 there were the categories of university and non-university film. Since 2011, the audience has rated the short films according to the categories feature film, experimental film / music video, animation film and documentary film.
