OpenID Connect (OIDC) is an authentication layer based on the authorization framework OAuth 2.0. The standard is monitored by the OpenID Foundation .

OpenID Connect is a layer above the OAuth framework that allows clients on the one hand to check the identity of a user with the help of an authorization server, and on the other hand to receive basic profile information in an interoperable manner. Formulated Technically specified OpenID Connect a HTTP - Programming with REST mechanisms that the data format JSON uses.

OpenID Connect allows a number of clients (web-based, mobile, JavaScript clients and others) to request and receive information about authenticated sessions and users. The specification is expandable and supports optional functions such as the encryption of identity data, the finding of OpenID providers and session management.
