It was developed by the US American Logos Corporation with the help of additional development teams from Germany and Italy.

features

OpenLogos translates from English or German into German, English, French , Italian , Spanish and Portuguese . In the future, unidirectional translations between all supported languages should be possible.

technology

OpenLogos can be used both as a server and by a command line program. OpenLogos also includes both a graphical user interface for multi-user use and a comprehensive tool for managing and adapting translation resources to user requirements.

history

Logos has been in development since 1967. Logos Corporation was founded in 1970 by Bernard (Bud) Scott, who worked on his Logos system for over 30 years until the company was taken over by Group AG in 2000. The software began as a translation system for the language combination English - Vietnamese and was operational in this form in 1972 (during the Vietnam War ). It was then expanded to include several target languages and German was added as the source language. The system was designed for the Windows operating system with an Oracle database. In 2005 the DFKI started a free open source porting based on Linux with a PostgreSQL database under the name OpenLogos . It is one of the most important nowadays and is on par with other large machine translation systems such as SYSTRAN or IBM's WebSphere .

The first open source Linux version was released in October 2005. In version 1.0.0 it is not yet completely compilable for AMD64 . In September 2010 the project moved to SourceForge .
