OpenMail

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

OpenMail is a groupware for emails and calendars that was developed by Hewlett-Packard and launched in 1990. Hewlett-Packard itself stopped further development and sales in 2001 with version 7. The current version 11 has been available under the Scalix brand since 2006.

It is a server for Unix that can be used with a web browser . It supports Microsoft Outlook as a personal information manager and other e-mail programs as a mail server . The server was developed for HP-UX , but was still ported by Hewlett-Packard to AIX , Solaris and Red Hat Linux . He uses Sendmail as a mail transfer agent .

Samsung Contact

At the end of 2001, Hewlett-Packard granted the customer Samsung a license to further develop the software and then sell it under its own name. The further development and distribution of Samsung Contact was discontinued at the end of 2005 with version 9.

Scalix

In 2003, the Scalix Corporation , founded in the previous year, began to sell its own further developments of OpenMail on the basis of another license from Hewlett-Packard. In July 2007, Scalix was taken over by Xandros and in July 2011 it was sold to Sebring Software Inc, a manufacturer of so-called on-premise collaboration and cloud software.

Scalix has not been further developed since December 2009, and the change to the new owner, Sebring, has not changed this situation for the time being.

On November 11, 2013, a press release was published that Scalix had been taken over as part of a management buy-out . Version 12 was released on the same day.
