OpenStreetCam , formerly known as OpenStreetView , is a project that collects street-level georeferenced photos to enhance OpenStreetMap and is a free alternative to Google Street View .

Helpers collect pictures with their mobile phones using the Android - or iOS - App . It is also possible to upload images from other cameras.

OpenStreetCam is similar to the Mapillary service . As with Mapillary, there is a commercial company behind the project ( Telenav until December 2019, then Grab ), which allows the (commercial) use or relicensing of the uploaded images when uploading. The images are licensed under the CC-BY-SA license and must be given the attribution “© Grab and OpenStreetCam Contributors”.

history

OpenStreetCam was founded in 2009 as OpenStreetView, but initially received little attention and only gained popularity later.
