from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Open Air is the name of a climbing route in Austria, with the level of difficulty is rated 9a + (UIAA XI +). At the time of the first ascent in 1996, it was probably the most difficult route in the world. The route is located in the Schleierwasserfall climbing area in the municipality of Going am Wilden Kaiser .

The route, which runs in holey yellow limestone , is about 55 meters long and overhangs heavily.

In 1996, Alexander Huber managed to climb the route, which she rated 9a (XI). About twelve years after the first ascent, Adam Ondra's route was repeated on November 17, 2008. He classified it as 9a +, which, according to him, was the first route in this level of difficulty. Since this inspection, there has been no further inspection of the route, so that there has been no further confirmation of the difficulty (status at the end of 2018).
