Open CASCADE Technology is a software development kit (SDK) to develop 3D application programs in the field of CAD , CAM , CAE . Open CASCADE is available under a license similar to LGPL for Linux, Solaris and Windows.
From version 6.7.0 the software is published under the conditions of LGPL version 2.1 and is therefore compatible with the GPL (version 2 and later). Previously, the versions were published under their own license, which was not recognized by the OSI and thus problems arose when used by other projects.
Technical support and development for Open CASCADE are provided by OPEN CASCADE SAS, the product is used by various customers and others. a. used in the aerospace and automotive industries.
The CAD program GraphiteOne and the pre / post processing program Salome are based on Open CASCADE. Open source projects that use Open CASCADE techniques include HeeksCAD and FreeCAD .
Open CASCADE has interfaces such as STEP (AP203 / 214 schema) , IGES (5.3) and BRep (a pure Open CASCADE format) for data exchange .
The program library has a size of around 200 MB, plus another 200 MB of documentation.
There is also the option of using Open CASCADE with the Python programming language (pythonOCC).
