Open Jerusalem for Cooperation and Dialogue

The Open Jerusalem for Cooperation and Dialogue ( OJCD for short ) is the continuation of the Jerusalem project . This Swiss - Israeli - Palestinian initiative supports a program in the greater Jerusalem area.

vision

The vision sees Jerusalem as an open city that will be politically divided, but physically and functionally open. It is given concrete form through appropriate social and urban development projects as well as through interreligious and intercultural activities. The aim is to improve living conditions.

OJCD Basel is an Israeli-Palestinian-European project with the following partners:

  • the Palestinian International Peace and Cooperation Center (IPCC) based in East Jerusalem , founded in 1998
  • the Jewish Futura Institute or The Shasha Center of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem in West Jerusalem .
  • a group of experts from Europe and Switzerland that supports the trilateral project with technical and diplomatic measures.

Task of the OJCD

OJCD Basel contributes to project development in the form of continuous process support and international networking and participates in the organization of meetings, workshops and conferences in Europe and in Jerusalem. In addition, in cooperation with partners in Israel, it offers interested people a learning field for interreligious, intercultural dialogue, cooperation and co-creation.

Projects and activities

Urban Development Project

Urban Development is a project of the International Peace and Cooperation Center (IPCC). A multidisciplinary group of experts has designed a social business model to create the conditions under which the construction of kindergartens, schools, hospitals and affordable residential and commercial space in East Jerusalem can be realized. With significant support from the FDFA and recognized experts from the private sector, the necessary contacts to investors and political institutions for implementation could be established.

Creating Islands of Peace - A project analogous to cross-border cooperation in Europe

The wall shapes the image of separation, also in Jerusalem. After the Second World War , the "Cross-Border Cooperation" initiative was initiated privately to support and promote peaceful coexistence in Europe. In the meantime, cooperation across borders at regional, supraregional, scientific and political level has proven to be a decisive instrument for securing stability and welfare in Europe. Based on this initiative, the Palestinian IPCC and the Israeli Shasha Center, supported by an international consortium of experts (including the Working Group of European Border Regions, AEBR ), as well as the European Commission and the Working Group of European Border Regions, are promoting the development of Palestinian-Israeli projects around islands of the To create peace and to concretise the vision of the open city .
