The Open University Malaysia (OUM) (mal. Universiti Terbuka Malaysia) in Kuala Lumpur is a private distance university in Malaysia . It was founded in 2000 from a network of several state universities and is now a university with around 80,000 students.

history

One of the areas of the major project of the State of Malaysia Vision 2020 is to increase the level of education of broad sections of the population. In 1999, the Minister of Education asked Multimedia Technology Enhancement Operations Sdn Bhd (METEOR) , a private company of eleven state universities, to establish a private distance learning university. It was founded in 2000 and the course began in 2001 with 750 students.

The university's chancellor is an honorary post and is filled by a well-known personality, while the university's full-time management is headed by the vice-chancellor . In addition to the main campus in Kuala Lumpur, there are 56 study centers in various locations in Malaysia.
