OpenMeetings is a free web conferencing - Software . The aim is to set up a meeting in just a few steps in which you can hold a conference with several participants via audio / video, drawing board and shared desktop.

The product was based on the RIA framework OpenLaszlo and the Media Server Red5 .

A porting of the client in HTML5 and the Flash-free audio, video and desktop sharing with WebRTC were published with version 5.0.0-M1 in a first release.

There are different scenarios available for holding and planning a conference. The recommended database is MySQL . The software can be installed as a hosted service or on your own server.

The development of OpenMeetings began in 2006. So far it has been downloaded over 500,000 times. OpenMeetings is available in over 30 languages ​​and is used by various public institutions, universities and private companies.

Public institutions are for example the Center of Competence in Open Source Sweden / Finland or the school intranet of the city of Koblenz 'Koblenz School Network' with 45 locations.

OpenMeetings has been a project of the Apache Software Foundation since November 12, 2011 .

OpenMeetings is used as a plugin in the e-learning platforms Moodle and OpenOLAT , as well as ATutor and in earlier versions of Dokeos .

With a client for Android devices or the Puffin Free browser , the audio and video function of the Flash-based version can also be used by mobile devices.

For the Flash-free version available from version 5, no special requirements are placed on the browser.
