As Operat is in geodesy and in the administration designated a larger work or project the uniform machined part.

For example, a larger survey network can only be built in individual sections. The locally contiguous parts which are Mountain z. As a valley corresponding to the economy (transit times are obtained from reasons sightings ) and the weather conditions in terms of possible neighboring days. They are therefore geometrically and physically correlated , which is reflected in good internal consistency with high neighborhood accuracy.

At the transition to the neighboring sub-networks (Operaten), this accuracy can be more inconsistent or manifest itself in noticeable gaps . However, this can be smoothed out retrospectively using methods of adjustment calculation. In order to be able to estimate these influences in advance, the operation number is also noted in the point descriptions of the measurement and control points .

The term “Operat” is also used in other geosciences and the state administration. Among other things, a distinction is made between writing operations and maps in work areas that are partly based on maps and plans .
