Operation: Mindcrime (Eng .: Operation: Thought Crimes) is the third music album by the American progressive metal band Queensrÿche and was released on May 26, 1988.

Emergence

The idea for this concept album came from singer Geoff Tate one night while visiting a church. For the album, the band first worked with producer Peter Collins. According to Tate, writing the album took a total of four months, during which the band worked 18 hours a day. It then took 14 months to record the entire album. The mix of the album was completed at noon on February 25, 1988 in the Wisseloord Studios in Hilversum (Netherlands).

action

It is a concept album that tells the story of a man who, frustrated over American society, an underground organization connects to attacks on corrupt politicians exercise. Spoken dialogues between the songs propel the story forward and establish connections between the individual songs. The album is considered to be one of the first progressive metal albums. In January 1989, Kerrang! Magazine voted the album 34th of the 100 best heavy metal albums of all time.

The album was first released in the United States on May 3, 1988. On May 26, 1988 the album was also released in Europe. On July 24, 2003, Operation: Mindcrime appeared for the first time in a digitally revised version. As part of the Queensrÿche Remastered series, the album was re-released as bonus tracks with a digital 24-bit revision and two previously unreleased live recordings. On June 29, 2006, the album was finally released again in a deluxe edition, the first CD of which is identical to the re-release from 2003. This version is offered in a noble digipack including a booklet and contains a previously unpublished concert recording on a second CD, which was recorded on November 15, 1990 in Hammersmith, London and contains the entire album live. A DVD is also included, which contains the video: Mindcrime , which was previously only released on VHS, as well as a making-of and a TV commercial. Also in 2006, the band released "Operation: Mindcrime II" - their ninth studio album - a continuation of their successful album, which, however, failed to meet commercial and artistic expectations.
