history

Against the background of arms smuggling into the civil war region, the UN Security Council, with resolution 757 of March 30, 1992, instructed NATO to carry out surveillance of the sea area off the coast of Yugoslavia. The mission only provided for monitoring functions, no use of offensive weapons. In 1993, the successor operation Maritime Guard was created, which now had an enforcement mandate.
