Operación Masacre (Spanish for "Operation Massacre") is a literary work that is assigned to investigative journalism. It was written in 1957 by the Argentine journalist and author Rodolfo Walsh . The book was published nine years before Truman published Capote in Cold Blood , the book that is considered the first work in non-fictional literature.

Summary

The report describes the massacre in the Argentine city of José León Suárez , which took place in 1956 while hunting down Peronist students. One of the hunted was the leader of the opposition group, Juan José Valle . These events took place as a result of a 1955 coup known as the Revolución Libertadora . During this coup, President Juan Perón was deposed and General Pedro Eugenio Aramburu came to power.

history

Walsh received notice of the upcoming surgery in December 1956 while playing chess in a cafe. Operación Masacre was published as a series of articles in the Journal Mayoría between May and July 1957 . The publication was anonymous. These articles were later rewritten and summarized in a book called Operación Masacre .

criticism

Literary critic Ángel Rama described the book as “a police story for the poor”. The novel describes acts of violence that are not unexpected, but also unpunished. Daniel Link found that the book transgressed and disregarded literary genres and should be seen as the forerunner of the new genre of the non-fictional novel.

additional

Pedro Eugenio Aramburu , one of those responsible for the massacre, was murdered in 1970 by the Peronist Montoneros .
