Leivset sacrificial site
The sacrificial place of Leivset ( Norwegian : Offerplass i Leivset ) at the approach of the Leivset peninsula, south of Fauske in Fylke Nordland in Norway , is (although undated) as a medieval sacrificial place (Siejdde) of the Sami , which is also mentioned in Beowulf .
On the south side of the road leading to the peninsula, there is a grave mound from the Iron Age . On the north side is the place of sacrifice. Two boulders, one low and one high, lie in the middle of an oval, open space about 6.0 × 10.0 m in size. The ground on the site is covered with black, oily ash and remains of organic victims. The area is surrounded by a partially collapsed wall of field stones. It is about two meters wide and one meter high, but used to be taller.
