Ophelia (also Ofelia ) is a female given name .
Origin and meaning
The name Ophelia is derived from the Greek word ὄφελος ("benefit, advantage, profit"). It was first used by the Italian Renaissance poet Jacopo Sannazaro in the poem Arcadia (around 1480). He was later picked up by William Shakespeare in the drama Hamlet .
