Ophidian (born: Conrad Hoyer * 1. September 1981 ) is a Dutch hardcore techno - DJ and music producer . Other of his pseudonyms are "Cubist Boy", "Meander", "Raziel" and "Trypticon".

Private

At the age of five, Hoyer took his first piano lessons . In 1993 he started mixing at the age of eleven. He and a friend recorded a couple of mixtapes with the help of a cassette recorder and a keyboard . According to him, the mixtapes were rather bad, but he learned a lot about the structure of songs. In 1995, Hoyer began recording music on his computer . This was the basis for Hoyer to seriously continue with his music and a school education. From 2001 he studied music technology at the Art University Utrecht (HKU). During his studies he learned a lot about the theoretical and technical aspects of music.

Musical career

In 1998 he convinced Patrick van Kerckhoven of his skills with a demo CD , so that a little later, at the age of 16, he offered him his first contract with the record labels “Gangsta Audiovisuals” and “Supreme Intelligence” - both sub- labels of Patrick van Kerckhoven. In 2001 Hoyer made a big change: While the first tracks were still published under the name Trypticon , from this year all of his tracks came out under the pseudonym Ophidian , because the Trypticon Project was finished and Ophidian began as a new project. The name is coined by the Dutch hardcore techno DJ "Tapage" and was initially used by Hoyer for his side projects at the slower Supreme Intelligence label. When he later switched to Enzyme Records, it became his main pseudonym. He also set up his own recording studio in 2001 . His first big success was the track "Butterfly VIP", which was released in 2004. This enabled him to appear regularly at festivals such as Thunderdome and Masters of Hardcore .

Hoyer now has its own labels: "Meta4" and "MetaO". With “Meta4”, Hoyer and Patrick van Kerckhofen want to offer new talents the opportunity to reach the public. From 2002 to 2012, Hoyer released 5 solo albums: Blackbox , Betrayed by Daylight , To Sing of Desecration , Between the Candle and the Stars and Gazing long into the Abyss under the pseudonym Meander.

Hoyer's musical style ranges from industrial hardcore , mainstyle, doomcore, and breakcore , to IDM and hard techno and often has influences from classical music .
