Thunderdome

Thunderdome is a music event in the Netherlands . It's a rave that mainly plays hardcore techno and gabber . In the years 2013–2016 there was no Thunderdome. Then there was the birthday edition for the 25th anniversary of Thunderdome in 2017. The last Thunderdome took place on October 26, 2019 in Utrecht .

The name comes from the movie Mad Max - Beyond the Thunder Dome .

The first Thunderdome took place in Heerenveen in 1992 . Thunderdome was one of the most famous rave events in Europe and the most famous in the gabber sector in the early to mid-1990s . Since 1993, Thunderdome events have also taken place in other European countries such as Germany , Switzerland and Spain .

A CD compilation series was also released to accompany the event, which often landed in the top ten of the charts in various countries, including Germany, and thus became one of the most commercially successful releases of this genre. Some party videos were also released, a few “Thunderdome boxes” with Thunderdome CDs , stickers, long sleeves and other items, as well as the Thunderdome - A Decade DVD (2002). There is a re-release of every Thunderdome compilation up to Hardcore Rules The World (No. 23). These were published for Thunderdome's 10th birthday and can be recognized by the fact that the cover has a gold border and the compilations were published via ID&T . The contents of these CDs are largely identical to the old versions. Furthermore, the Thunderdome and ID&T brands marketed various clothing (T-shirts, jackets, etc.), and even energy drinks (Thundertaste) were available at the time.

Irfan van Ewijk, Duncan Stutterheim & Theo Lelie (ID&T) came up with the idea of ​​organizing a rave for school leavers in early 1992. The rave, entitled “The Final Exam”, took place on June 20, 1992 in the “Jaarbeurs” congress and event center in Utrecht . ID&T made a name for itself in the Dutch music scene. After the rave in June 1992, Theo Lelie left the company. At the end of 1992 the first ID & T Thunderdome CD was released. Numerous best-of and maxi CDs from the Thunderdome series were then released. The numbered series went up to 22. After that, only a few CDs were released, sometimes twice a year.

On December 15, 2012, after 20 years, the last Thunderdome Party took place at the RAI in Amsterdam , just like the 10th and 15th anniversaries . The event, which was already sold out in advance, was - like the very first edition in 1992 - the title "The Final Exam".

On December 5, 2015, the first fan day (Thunderdome - Die Hard Day) was held in Melkweg, Amsterdam.

On October 28, 2017, a Thunderdome took place again after a break of almost 5 years. This time the 25th anniversary of the party series in Jaarbeurs Utrecht was celebrated with the motto "25 Years of Hardcore" with many DJs from the early days (including PCP, Dano, Prophet, Pavo, Gizmo ..).
