The Oppermannstein is a listed memorial stone in Magdeburg in Saxony-Anhalt .

location

The stone is located in the Herrenkrug district in the Herrenkrugpark to the northwest, behind the Herrenkrug Hotel, not far from the right bank of the Elbe .

Design and history

The sandstone stele was created as a tombstone for a child who drowned in the Elbe in 1854 at the age of four. The four sides of the cuboid stone are provided with inscriptions.

The inscriptions read:

Child read and tremble
who rests here
He was pulled out of
the Elbe flood

The distressed parents weep after
those who fell asleep early

God want to comfort us

Gustav FW
Oppermann
b. Dec. 1849
d. July 1854

A loving uncle made this
monument to him .

The memorial stone is listed as a small monument in the local register of monuments .
